PORTLAND, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- The Maine Boatbuilders Show this weekend presents the idea of warmer weather with hundreds of boats. The show brings together about 200 companies and features some of the finest craftsmanship in the world.

"It is Maine and New England art. There are boats from canoes to large boats that are extremely expensive," said Phineas Sprague, president of the Portland Yacht Service.

From sailboats to yachts to powerboats, attendees can see fiberglass and wooden custom boat builders. There will also be several manufacturers of boating equipment. The builders are at the show to discuss their work and answer questions. Brigg said it is possible to upgrade an existing boat or customize a new boat down to the small details.

The show organizers expect 10,000 people to attend the show, more than recent years. They said the upturn in the economy should help with the show's success.

"Some people come to talk to the boat builders. It's not a sales guy, you get the real story," said Jon Johansen.

The show runs Friday and Saturday 10 to 6 p.m. and Sunday 10 to 6 p.m. Admission is $15 at the door, children 12 and under are free.
