T.A. unanimous #1 in 'Fifth Quarter' preseason poll

(NEWS CENTER) - The Thornton Academy Trojans open 2013 the way they ended 2012:  on top.  The reigning Class 'A' champs (11-1 in 2012) were a unanimous selection to as the number one team in the 'Fifth Quarter' preseason poll. 

The team in second is the program that finished second to T.A. in the 2012 Western Maine final:  Cheverus (10-1 in 2012). 

The Portland Bulldogs (6-4), who lost to Cheverus in the Western Maine semifinals came in at third. 

In fourth, are the 2012 runners-up in Eastern Maine Class 'A', the Cony Rams.  Cony finished last season with a record of 8-3.

The team they lost to, the two-team reigning Eastern Maine champs from Lawrence are fifthy.  The boys from Fairfield have been bumped to 'B' with the expansion to a four-class system. 

Round out the final five spots are 2012 Western 'B' champ Marshwood (10-2); 2012 Western 'A' semifinalist Kennebunk (5-4, now in Class 'B'); 2012 Eastern 'A' semifinalist Brunswick (7-2); 2012 Class 'B' champ Mt. Blue (12-0); 2012 Eastern 'B' quarterfinalist Leavitt (7-2).
