ORRINGTON, Maine (NEWS CENTER)-- The town of Orrington continues to deal with the tragedy of last weekend's house fire that left a father and three children dead. But it is in a time of need that the true sense of community comes out.

Bob Bistey with Bob's Kozy Korner said, "It's just important to help each other when you're down and out and things happen like this you want to be there to pick the family back up or pick her up."

The townspeople of Orrington, 3,600 strong knows what it takes to help a neighbor.

Bistey put a collection jar to benefit Christine Johnson in his local store. In less than 24 hours the store raised over 200 dollars.

"I knew people would donate and help out, but you know they're dropping twenty dollar bills, they're putting whatever they got in their pockets they are putting in," said Bitsey.

Stephen Aspega, the owner of Maine Traditional Martial Arts, had a personal connection to the Johnsons. The Johnson's oldest son, 9-year old Ben was a student at his center.

Aspega said, "He was a great kid. He had plenty of energy and his dad would bring him in or his mum on occasion and he loved it. He loved it...We take them on as a family and reach out and do what we can."

Even those that did not personally know the Johnson family are still willing to help.

The Orrington Town Hall started collected clothes for Christine. The Town Clerk, Susan Carson, said, "Donations started pouring in within a few minutes of letting everyone know we were going to be collecting some things for Christine. People were bringing them in by the bag full, by the box full."

The town will keep helping until Christine is back on her feet.

Carson said, "There's a lot of people you know that are just pulling together. She's going to be taken care of, you know in the best way that she can be."
