PORTLAND, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- A Portland man has been indicted on several charges after police say he attempted to run down a state trooper on the Maine Turnpike last month.
23-year-old Matthew Cole has been indicted by a Cumberland County Grand Jury on charges of eluding an officer, criminal speeding, reckless conduct, and violating conditions of release charges.
Police say Cole drove off when Trooper Kyle Wells tried to pull him over for an expired registration back on September 15th. Police say Cole lost control of the vehicle at a Scarborough exit and went off the road.
The trooper was outside his vehicle when police say Cole began backing up toward him. Police say the trooper fired at Cole's car and Cole was not injured. He is currently being held at the Cumberland County Jail.
