FORT MEYERS, Florida (WBBH) -- A Florida mother is facing charges after hotel employees who went into her room and found a dehydrated, emaciated toddler alone inside, according to Fort Myers police.
Officers were called about the discovery at the Candlewood Suites at 11 a.m. Tuesday.
Police say the hotel employees reported a strong smell of feces and urine in the room, and found the 2-year-old girl in a makeshift crib by herself. She was allegedly left alone for more than 16 hours.
The child was taken to Golisano Children's Hospital of Southwest Florida for treatment.
They reported she weighed only 16 pounds. The average weight for a two-year-old is about 29 pounds, according to CDC data.
