(WJAC) Pennsylvania's elk hunting season starts in just a few weeks, but hunters aren't the only ones who will run into them.
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation making sure travelers who may encounter elk take the proper safety precautions.
They also want to emphasize they danger you could be put in if one crosses your path.
As an example, a silhouette in front of PennDot's Elk County maintenance office is the actual size of the average full-grown male elk.
"They're out there to allow the public to actually pull in with their vehicles and see how large the animals truly are," explains PennDot Operations Manager Greg Sayers.
