(NBC) -- Virginia Beach police say a mother could face charges after she left her 21-month-old child in her vehicle, which was towed away moments after she stepped inside her apartment.
Police said they were called to apartment complex Wednesday afternoon.
The mother frantically dialed 911, saying her vehicle and her toddler were missing.
The woman allegedly ran inside of her apartment to quickly grab something while her SUV was parked in a fire lane outside of her home.
When she came back, both the vehicle and little boy were gone.
The SUV and the child ended up in Norfolk.
Police say a tow truck driver with Aristocrat Towing towed the car, which had dark-tinted windows, because it was illegally parked.
The little boy was reunited with his father and was not hurt in the incident.
