Chad Walton, President of Snap Space Solutions, says shipping containers can be transformed into homes, dormitories, and hotels.

BREWER, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- In the two years since Lemforder in Brewer announced it was closing almost 250 employees lost their jobs.  Now, Snap Space Solutions is hoping to hire back as many of those employees as it can.

Brewer city leaders got a tour of the empty facility where unused shipping containers will be transformed into modular buildings.  Snap Space Solutions President, Chad Walton, says these containers can be built into sturdy, hurricane and tornado-proof homes, dormitories, and hotels that snap and click together wherever they are shipped.

We import a heck of a lot more than we export and it gets here via shipping containers across the ocean, and they're left behind," Walton said. "It's not worth it to ship it back empty, so there's plenty of raw material here so it's very green."
