BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) - University of Vermont-based Peace Corps recruiter Kelly Dolan helps send people to the farthest reaches of the globe, where they'll spend two years working on development projects as varied as community gardens in Central America or health education in Africa.

It's not a hard sell at UVM.

Statistics released last week showed that Vermont is the top state in the country for the per capita production of Peace Corps volunteers. New Hampshire ranks fourth and Maine eighth.

The Peace Corps' Brian Melman, who oversees recruiting in nine northeastern states says the culture of the communities o of the three states are interwoven and people do things together.

Currently there are 8,000 Peace Corps volunteers serving in 76 countries.
