AMHERST, Mass. (AP) -- Amherst College is holding a public open house to celebrate the reopening of the historic Lord Jeffery Inn.
The college-owned inn was closed in November 2008 for a $14 million renovation project that was slowed by the worldwide economic downturn.
The project included updating the 85-year-old inn's 49 rooms and suites, expansion of the restaurant and a new ballroom.
Saturday's open house will give the public a chance to meet management and staff of the company contracted by the college to run the facility.
Town Manager John Musante tells the Daily Hampshire Gazette the reopened inn is vital to bringing new life to that end of downtown.
