AUGUSTA (AP) -- A Superior Court judge is giving jurors and litigants in John Okie's double-murder trial a day's breather.

After two days of opening statements and testimony, Kennebec County Superior Court Justice Joseph Jabar called off testimony for Thursday after deciding the case was ahead of schedule.

The 22-year-old Okie is accused of killing his father, John S. Okie, during a heated argument in July 2007. He's also accused of killing a former high school girlfriend six days earlier in her Wayne home.

The defense doesn't dispute that Okie killed the two but contends he's not criminally responsible for his actions because of schizophrenia and other mental health issues.
