SCOTT COUNTY, Kentucky (WLEX) -- A horse barn in Scott County, Kentucky caught fire early Sunday morning killing eight horses.

The barn belongs to Equine Integrated Medicine.

The owner says they lost four thoroughbred Yearlings, two riding horses and two retired mares.

One cat was also killed in the fire.

Alison Walker with nearby Spring Hill Stables says the owners raised thoroughbred race horses.

As a horse owner, she says she can't imagine what they are going through.

"It's a horse person's biggest nightmare, we all think about it, we all try to prepare to keep it from happening" Walker said.
