FREMONT, Ohio (AP) - The Ohio State Highway Patrol says a motorist traveling at more than 125 mph has been charged with vehicular homicide after his car struck a van, killing a couple inside.
A patrol spokeswoman says Andrew D. Gans, of Kent, faces two counts of vehicular homicide with a reckless specification after Thursday night's crash on the Ohio Turnpike.
Staff Lt. Anne Ralston says the 24-year-old Gans suffered injuries that are not life-threatening and was hospitalized for psychiatric evaluation. He will be taken to jail following his release.
Ralston says two troopers separately spotted Gans' car as it sped down the turnpike. But they weren't able to catch up with it before the crash near Fremont in northwest Ohio.
The patrol identified the deceased couple as 77-year-olds Wilbur and Margaret McCoy of Toledo.
