a. 99 Red Balloons

Capt. Kirk is played in the rebooted "Star Trek" movie series by Chris Pine.  He was born on Aug. 26, 1980.  He was three years old when the song became a huge international hit.

It was an anti-nuclear protest song, originally recorded in German by the band Nena. The part about Capt. Kirk refers to his tendency to shoot first and ask questions later. It goes like this:

"99 knights of the air

Ride super high-tech jet fighters

Everyone's a super hero

Everyone's a Capt. Kirk."
