a. Gordon Cooper
Quaid was born on Apr. 9, 1954. He might have been too busy with his fifth birthday party in 1959 to notice the big news of the day as NASA introduced its first team of astronauts. Quaid would grow up to reenact that moment with his portraying of Gordon Cooper.
Cooper logged more time in space than all the other Mercury astronauts combined. He was so cool under pressure, he was the first astronaut to fall asleep both on the launch pad and during flight.
To capture his swagger, Quaid spent a lot of one-on-one time with Cooper until he learned how to mimic Cooper's mannerisms. Quaid even cut and dyed his hair to look more like him.
