Todd joined NEWS CENTER in May of 2000 from KGO-TV in San Francisco where he served as weather producer for veteran forecaster Spencer Christian and meteorologist Leigh Glaser. Over the past seven years, Gutner has served as a staff meteorologist, scheduled to weekend morning newscasts from 2000 through 2005, then assigned weekend evening and noon newscasts. His new assignment at WBZ will be weekends, both morning and evening newscasts.
"It saddens me to leave the NEWS CENTER family, but working for WBZ-TV is a dream come true. Thank you to my colleagues and the people of Maine for seven unforgettable years. I hope we will cross paths again," said Gutner.
"This is all about an extraordinary talent recognized by a major market, network-owned station. With this opportunity, Todd makes a huge leap from the 76th and 152nd TV markets of Portland and Bangor to Boston, the 7th ranked US TV market. As the hiring general manager in 2000, I am so proud of Todd's growth. He has developed into an outstanding meteorologist and broadcaster before our eyes. But I am selfishly sorry for our team. We will miss him very much," said Steve Thaxton, WCSH 6 president and general manager.
A search for Todd's replacement will begin immediately.
Todd Gutner holds a degree in meteorology from the State University of New York at Oneonta. He is a native of West Harford, Connecticut. Todd and his wife Rachel currently live in South Portland.
