BIDDEFORD, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Since Thanksgiving, police in Biddeford have been busy, investigating five burglaries in their city.

"To have 5 robberies within a week's time is, you know, we almost have that many in a year," stated Biddeford Police Chief Roger Beaupre.

But Biddeford is not the only community that has been hit, Saco has had two robberies and an attempted robbery while Arundel has had one.

Investigators believe many, if not all of the robberies have been committed by the same person.

"The physical descriptors and the type of weapon that was used, as described by the victim, all matched," explained Beaupre.

He says many of the businesses share similar characteristics and were all robbed at a time when there were few customers around.

He is hoping that by working with other area departments, the York County Sheriff's Office and federal law enforcement agencies, they can catch the person responsible before someone gets hurt or worse.

"Money is replaceable, life is not," he said.

"The more they are doing it, the more likely they are going to get caught, because they are playing the odds, and the odds eventually become our advantage, not the person committing the robbery," added Beaupre.

Police have gathered evidence and are tracking down leads, but are hoping the public can help them crack the case.  They have released a very limited description of the suspect they are seeking.  He is described as a white male, 5'10" to 6' in height.  He was wearing a camouflage mask and black hoodie sweatshirt when he robbed the Arundel Market on Monday evening.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the Biddeford Police Department at 207-282-5127.
