ENFIELD, Maine (NEWS CENTER)-- Maine Patriots fans had something special to celebrate last night: one of their own scored a touchdown in the NFL.

Matt Mulligan caught a one yard TD pass from Tom Brady in the second quarter to put the Patriots up 7-3. The Pats went on to beat the Atlanta Falcons 30-23.

This was Mulligan's first touchdown in a Patriots uniform, and he is also the first person born in Maine to catch a touchdown pass in the NFL.

Many residents of Mulligan's home town of Enfield could not be happier to see him succeed.

"He's an all American young man form a small town and we're very proud of him," said Mulligan's former teacher Gerald Hutchinson, "[We're proud] of what he's done and what he can hopefully continue to do."

Matt Mulligan did not play football until he got to college because his high school, Penobscot Valley High, didn't have a football team. Mulligan walked onto the team in Husson, and then played for the University of Maine before making it to the pros.
