d. Little Round Top
The first shots were fired at Gettysburg on July 1, 1863.
Chamberlain and the men of the 20th Maine held back a Confederate advance that could have turned the tide of the Civil War.
Despite being in the thick of combat, Chamberlain only suffered two minor injuries. The first was a bruised thigh when a shot bounced off his sword. And the second was a cut on his right foot from either shrapnel or a spent bullet.
For his courage in the battle, Chamberlain was awarded the Medal of Honor, as well as the nickname the "Lion of the Round Top."
