BANGOR, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Losing a loved one to a life threatening disease like cancer is never easy, but for one family, they found a way to turn their loss into a gain through relay for life and the american cancer society.

Susan Cerini and her family lost their 'gram' back in september of 2012 and have chosen a positive way to cope with their loss. Cerini started the Relay for Life team Marion's Monsters and today held their first fundraising event at the bangor VFW hall. More than 30 vendors were on site to offer their products to try and do their part to help raise money for Marion's Monsters. Weather was favorable for the community to come out and support a local cause.

"I feel very fortunate to have support of friends and family that want to participate and I'm extremely thankful for all of the vendors, all of the donations we've received from all the area businesses and we appreciate everything, it's been nice. I feel that this is one cause that everyone can come together for everyone either knows somebody or they lost sombody that's fought cancer and I think its all for the same idea so it works well," said Cerini.

Marion's Monster will be participating in the Penobscot Relay for Life event at the University of Maine's track on May 17th. If you would like to donate to any of the participating teams you can do so online at relay-for-life-dot-org slash penobscot M-E
