LEWISTON, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Lewiston Auburn is on a short list of candidates for a National Service Program called Groundwork USA, which would provide resources to clean up vacant lots, abandoned parks, and beautify city space.

Among cities such as Los Angeles, Atlanta, and Indianapolis, Lewiston Auburn is one of eight finalists.

If chosen, Groundwork USA would provide funding and resources for the Twin Cities to establish a Ground Work Trust.

The organization would work to improve selected sites, while engaging local businesses and youth.

Representatives from the Groundwork USA program will be visiting the Lewiston Auburn area in May to evaluate the area.

The Androscoggin Land Trust submitted the application and would facilitate the establishment of a Ground Work Trust in Lewiston Auburn.
