State police say standoff suspect confessed to killing Molunkus man

MOLUNKUS, Maine (NEWS CENTER) --- The Maine State Police now says that the man who killed himself on Monday following a massive standoff with cops on Interstate 95 is responsible for the death of another man in Molunkus.

Investigators say Bruce King, who is also known as Bruce Heal, admitted to killing Lawrence Lewis. The confession came before Heal fatally shot himself in the head on the highway. Lewis' body would be found inside his home just hours later.

Police say Heal and his new wife -- 43-year-old Karen Fogg of Mattawamkeag --- had been staying with Lawrence Lewis at his home on Route 2 in Molunkus. Investigators say the couple recently moved out and were staying in several motels around Medway.

On Monday Fogg and Heal were found in the U-Haul on I-95 south. Police say Heal had a rifle pointed at his head and would later use on himself.

Investigators say at this point they have completed an autopsy on the body of Lawrence Lewis but are holding off on releasing a cause of death.

According to court documents, Bruce Heal has a past criminal history in Massachusetts. there he was convicted on crimes that include ssault with a deadly weapon as well as drug crimes.

Lawrence Lewis was a registered sex offender in Maine who was convicted in the 1990s for sexually assaulting a child.

At this point the state police say they have interviewed Linda Fogg multiple times and she is cooperating with their investigation.
