PORTLAND, Maine (AP) - A New York City man has been sentenced in Maine to 20 years in prison for his role in a crack cocaine and heroin drug ring.

The U.S. Attorney's Office said Thursday that 34-year-old Shareef Nash was sentenced in U.S. District Court in Portland. Nash pleaded guilty in September to drug conspiracy charges.

According to court documents, Nash was the leader of a drug ring that brought cocaine from New York City to Maine in 2009 and 2010, processed it into crack cocaine and sold the crack and heroin from apartments in Portland, Lewiston and Waterville.

Prosecutors say 11 other people in the drug operation have already been sentenced, and two others await sentencing.
