After a beautiful end to the weekend another round of precipitation moves in tomorrow. This time we are talking not just snow, but a change over to rain for many locations. The storm clears out Monday night and our weather looks pretty quiet for the rest of the week. I think the biggest story will be the seasonably mild temperatures. Colder air returns next weekend.
Tonight - Mostly clear skies, light winds, and lows in the teens.
Monday - Warmer air tries to push in ahead of the approaching storm. The result will be increasing clouds during the early morning hours. Conditions will be okay for the morning commute. The leading edge of the precipitation arrives in western locations mid morning and spreads east through the day. You can see the places that the National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory in the "weather extra" graphic. These are the places that will see some slippery travel conditions during the day and into the evening. These are also the places where we will see the most snow. Towns like Fryeburg, Oxford, and Skowhegan picking up about 2-4 inches of snow. Caribou and Millinocket 3-6 inches by early Tuesday morning. Towns that are not in the advisory area will still see some snow on the onset of this storm, but then see a change over to rain. I am concerned about some pockets of some freezing rain in the foothills as the temperatures start to warm up. The rain/snow line will lift slowly north through the afternoon. I expect Bangor and points south will see that change over by late in the day. Rainfall amounts will be around a half an inch. This storm winds down during the evening from west to east and temperatures will fall below freezing. We could see some slick spots and some freezing drizzle into early Tuesday morning. You will want to give yourself some extra time for your morning commute Tuesday.
Extended Forecast - Tuesday features partly cloudy skies and some seasonably mild temps. The mountains may see some additional light snow. Our weather pattern remains fairly quiet for much of the week. Next chance of some light snow and rain will be on Friday. The cold air returns next weekend.
