LEWISTON, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- A Smithsonian traveling exhibit that explores how the American workforce has evolved is making its way to Lewiston.

UPDATE: The opening reception of the exhibit has been rescheduled to Friday, February 15th from 4-7 p.m due to the snowstorm.

The exhibit, called "The Way We Worked," is set to open Friday at Museum L-A in the Bates Mill Complex.

"The Way We Worked" studies jobs ranging from factory and office workers to nursing and military jobs, and how tools and technology have changed those professions over the years.

While the exhibit displays work from across the country, it will also have interactive components drawing on local themes.

Museum staff said there will be a wall as part of the exhibit where members of the community can bring in their own pictures and artwork to show how they have worked across various professions.

Museum L-A Executive Director Rachel Desgrosseilliers said having a prominent national exhibit come to Lewiston is a great compliment to local work already on display.

"It just kind of fit perfectly into what the museum was trying to show to really celebrate and showcase how great Lewiston-Auburn was and continues to be," Desgrosseillers said.

Museum staff are busy making the final touches in the hours leading up to opening on Friday.

After opening later this week, the exhibit runs until May 4th.  For more information, click here
