LIVERMORE FALLS, Maine (NEWS CENTER) - A soldier from Maine who was severely injured in an attack in Afghanistan will be spending Thanksgiving with her family.

Army Sgt. Helaina Lake received significant injuries to the right side of her body in a suicide bombing in June.

Since then she's been receiving treatment at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center.

Sgt. Lake has had 18 surgeries so far and she's not yet out of the woods. She still has no movement in her right arm and she uses a walker and a wheel chair to get around.

Her 2 year old son, Aden, and her mother, Jeannine, have been in Washington with her keeping her company for the past couple of months.

On Tuesday, the family will come home to Maine. Sgt. Lake will see her father, Bernal Lake, for the first time since she was deployed in 2011.

After arriving at the Portland Jetport at 11:40 AM, the family will pile into a stretch Humvee and drive home.

The plan is for firefighter and police officers to escort her the whole way.

Sgt. Lake's family and friends are hoping to get as many people as possible to line the road from the Jetport to the Turnpike... and then from to line Route 4 from Auburn to the Knights of Columbus Hall in Jay.

"I hope she sees that all of these people are there for her," says Bernal, "She doesn't think she's a hero. So I hope she can see these people standing around for us and see what a special girl she is."
