MILBRIDGE, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Farmworkers in Washington County will soon have access to a brand new affordable housing project in Milbridge, the first of its kind in the state.
The six-unit apartment complex is desinged specifically for people who work in agriculture and aquaculture. The $1.2 million project was put together by a number of different agencies, including the USDA, non-profit Hand in Hand, and the Maine State Housing Authority.
Some families who will be moving into the new complex say having a clean, affordable place to live will make a big difference in their lives.
"I don't feel as stressed anymore knowing that I have a place that I'm going to call my own. This is my first place, this is my first apartment of my own, so it just means the world to me," Jamie Thompson-Ostorga, a woman from Milbridge who will be living in the complex said.
Officials say tenants will begin moving into the new apartment complex starting Friday.
