If you are interest in learning a martial art and are looking to have fun at the same time, consider giving Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) a shot. BJJ has been around since early 20th century and appeals to people of all ages. In fact, one of the founders Helio Gracie was practicing BJJ up into his 90s.

Over at Central Maine Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu they strive to bring people in as a family. That way even the kids are learning great self defense while getting a good work out all at the same time.

Each class starts with an intense 15 minute warm up that includes falling and rolling techniques. The ground fighting, or rolling, may just look like two people wrestling, but each move is calculated and full of strategy. When it comes to sparring, women are also able to roll with men. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is designed to bring the gap between strength and technique. Good technique can easily overcome strength.

For more information on BJJ we have provided a link to the gym we featured in this story.
