When it comes to life with a new baby relaxation is not the first thing that comes to mind. Genell Houston of Lila Yoga tells us how important it is for new moms to carve out time to be with their baby. Mommy and baby yoga offers a great opportunity for just that. Believe it or not even yogis that are just a couple weeks old can have major benefits to a class like this. Baby massage is worked into the class helping babies with bowel movements and sleep. Baby yoga also helps your little munchkin with memory and with voices.
The approach to yoga for children takes on a more playful manner and is based on imagination. Aleksandra Townsend of Spiral Tree Yoga says that for kids yoga is intuitive. They use lot of the yoga games and activities helping them work on principles of being humble, being grateful, and being compassionate to others. Simple tools like a meditation jar or gratitude rock helps to teach kids how something as basic as taking a deep breath can work wonders.
"It really helps to calm them down. It helps them to center and be more mindful of why they are doing things."
Through yoga they learn important tools to succeed in school and in their social lives too.
