BANGOR, Maine (NEWS CENTER)-- George Hale continues to go strong as a voice of Maine. The popular radio personality currently teams with Rick Tyler on "The George Hale-Rick Tyler Show" on WVOM.
Hale, who is 82, has had one of the longest radio careers of anyone in the business. He answered an ad in Broadcast Magazine to get the job in Bangor. He quickly began doing everything for the station from morning show host, TV sports anchor, staff announcer and play by play analyst.
He became a Maine radio and TV legend who was particularly loved for his work as the voice of Maine Black Bear football, basketball and baseball.
Hale's advice to young broadcasters is to read out loud a lot. He said, "You wouldn't ask Stephen King to stop writing. Why would I stop. I"m simply never going to say, 'I'm not a broadcaster.'"
