Eric Saindon has risen to filmmaking's top ranks as a special effects supervisor. He has once again been nominated for an Academy Award, this time for his work with "The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug."
Eric was born in Bangor and moved to Gorham when he was nine. He went to Gorham High School, Central Maine Community College and Washington State University.
He then went to Santa Barbara where he made his first movie. He was then invited to work with famed Director Peter Jackson in New Zealand.
Fourteen years later, he is one of the best in the business. He has been recognized for his special effects in such famous movies as King Kong, Avatar and The Hobbit.
Eric and his wife Beth live in New Zealand with their four children. They was recently home in Gorham for Christmas where one of their children saw snow for the first time.
The final Hobbit movie is due out in December of 2014.
