BOSTON (NEWS CENTER) -- Frozen Fenway has a new feature this year and Mainer Rory Strunk is the man behind it. It is called Monster Sled. It is an outdoor sliding facility at Fenway Park. It will give an opportunity for the public to actually get on the field and participate.

Strunk is a native of Farmington and a lifelong Sugarloaf skier. He has worked in the media and event staging for more than thirty years.

"You wouldn't believe that simple sledding holds such fascination but people just love it," Strunk told NEWS CENTER. "Everybody can do it and you set it in a beautiful park like this and the novelty just goes to another level."

The 20 foot high slide is in deep left center field. Groups will be able to rent the facility for $25 per person.

Strunk's company, Stack Box LLC has been planning Monster Sled for almost a year. Their dream is to build it higher next year, perhaps affording people an opportunity to go sliding off the Green Monster itself.

Ben Breton of Rink Specialists in Naples, Maine is again responsible for building the NHL-size hockey rink at Fenway. His company has built three outdoor NHL rinks this year as well as five outdoor rinks which offer figure skating.

"When the Red Sox called to us and said they wanted a rink out here, we met once a month for a year to plan on getting the rink out here and how we're going to do it," Breton told NEWS CENTER. He pointed out being a leader in the outdoor rink industry means his company invented most of the equipment that is out on the ice.

Both are excited about Frozen Fenway which begins on Saturday. One highlight of the even will be the University of Maine hockey team's game versus Boston University on January 11th.

During the two weeks in Fenway, the two will worry about what they always worry about and that's weather.

"We all say, 'Mother nature giveth and mother nature taketh away and we're going to deal with that in the next few days for sure,'" laughed Strunk.
