Green Outdoors: Yarmouth skater qualifies for Nationals

YARMOUTH, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Franz-Pater Jerosch, a 12 year old figure from Yarmouth will be skating at the U. S. National Figure Skating Championships in Boston from January 5-12. He will be the only Mainer competing at the Nationals.

"My goal for nationals is just to skate the best program that I can," said the Harrison Middle School 7th-grader.

He is coached in Maine by Lynda Hathaway who is Skating Director at the Portland Ice Arena. Each week, he is driven to Portland where he is a member of the Greater Boston Skating Club.  In Boston, he is able to skate with a number of national class competitors and more boys.

Franz-Peter won gold at this Boston Open, Charter Oak Open, Cranberry Open and the Providence Open.  He qualified for Nationals by winning the Regional Figure Skating Championship and finished third in the Eastern Sectionals.  There are four sectional competitions qualifying skaters for the nationals.

Franz will compete in the Juvenile Division.
