GRAND LAKE STREAM, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Kurt and Kathy Cressey have owned the Pine Tree Store in Grand Lake Stream for sixteen years. Now it's for sale as the owners have created a new business which is to be known as Pack Baskets of Maine.
Pack Baskets are as traditional as Bean boots to most Maine outdoorsmen. The Cressey's company will be called Pack Baskets of Maine. They plan to produce about five thousand of them this summer out of their Orrington plant. The Cresseys will also live in Orrington.
"It's bittersweet," Kathy Cressey says of leaving the small fishing town where they have raised a family. She points out that their baskets are primarily sold to the sporting crowd, but expectsthey may soon enter new markets such as the decorative and gift "If you had told me seven or eight years ago that I would be making a living making baskets, I would have told you you were crazy," she said. "It's just goes to show you that you don't know what turns.
