CARRABASSETT VALLEY, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Seth Wescott is back in Maine. The first American to successfully defend an olympic gold medal in a snow sport dropped by his restaurant at Sugarloaf Wednesday night.

Wescott is looking forward to a big public ceremony on Saturday.  At that time he will sign autographs, pose for pictures and snowboard with kids.

Wednesday night, he told NEWS CENTER that his gold medal race went exactly as planned. His coach told him that he was slower on the top of the course, but much faster on the bottom.

The stategy became one of laying back and waiting to strike.  Wescott did that and went from last to first.  In winning the Olympic Boardercross race, he became the first American to successfully defend a gold medal since Dick Button in 1956.

The celebration for Seth is Saturday at 1:00pm. It will be on the mountain side of the lodge in an area known as "The Beach."
