Douglas Grant, Jr. is a longtime volunteer with Eastern Maine Healthcare Systems. Over the course of 13 years, he has devoted more than 17,000 hours in many different departments, including Emergency, the Cancer Registry, Human Resources, EMMC's Colorectal Cancer awareness program, and Telecare.
Telecare provides free daily reassurance telephone contact to elderly men and women who live alone in the Greater Bangor region. Doug is one of their most reliable volunteers, not just for his own shift but for providing coverage when other volunteers are absent.
According to Renee Stefanik at the Cancer Registry, "Doug deeply believes in helping others, the quality of his volunteer work is outstanding, and his affectionate smile and infectious laugh make us all happy."
Doug's work benefits not just the hospital, but the thousands of patients he has helped in direct and indirect ways. Jennifer Maskala, Manager of Telecare, says "I think it's very meaningful to have the Bangor community know just how much Doug Grant has given to improve healthcare in our region."
