John Heald of Southport has been volunteering with United Cerebral Palsy of Maine (UCP of ME) since 2006. He has served as UCP of ME Board President, as well as on board subcommittees including Executive, Strategic Planning, Governance, Development, Marketing and Merger.

John was selected as a Trustee on the National UCP Board. This was a significant time commitment requiring a great deal of travel, but he places tremendous value on being the voice of UCP of ME at the national level. Other agencies benefitting from John's volunteerism include Common Good Ventures, Preble Street, Coastal Maine Botanical Garden, and the Community Caring Collaborative in Washington County.

According to Alan Furth of Cobscook Community Learning Center, "He is committed to building healthy social systems, including the economic, environmental, and civic conditions of our lives."

Barbara Irish of Common Good Ventures says that John cares as much for a CEO, an Executive Director, or a homeless man in need of a warm meal and a clean bed, that he is "the epitome of C.A.R.E.: Committed, Authentic, Reliable, and Exceptional. This isn't 'cocktail party fodder'; John lives the mission of each Board he serves on and in each meal he serves, and in each hour of expertise he gives to friends, colleagues, and families."
