AUGUSTA, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Every year more than 50-thousand families in Maine need help heating their homes.

With high fuel costs, many must make terrible choices between staying warm, or buying medicine and food. One way people can get help is applying for assistance through the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program or LIHEAP program.

But it's only a short term fix-- leaving people to find other ways to pay for the lion's share of their heating needs.
