If a child is overweight as an adolescent, the odds are 80% that the adult will be overweight as well. That is why it is so important for parents to keep their children from overeating, or eating the wrong foods. Here are some basic ground rules: Get the junk food out of the house and buy healthier snacks -- fruit and veggies. Have the family get outdoors and get 'em moving -- go for walk or play games together. Limit TV watching to two hours per day -- make more time for school work or exercise. Don't reward good behavior with food -- instead use free time or unsctructured time as rewards. With so many health problems linked to obesity, setting healthy food habits for your children could spare them a lifetime of trouble.
