CAPE ELIZABETH, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- If you want to ensure a spot at the starting line in August, you need to be at your computer and ready to go at 7 a.m. on Thursday or Friday. Remember, it's the fastest five minutes in road racing.
The registration process for the 2014 TD Beach to Beacon gets underway this week. Online registration is Thursday, March 13 for Cape Elizabeth residents (600 slots available), then on Friday, March 14 will open up to the general public (4,000 slots available). A lottery for 1,900 remaining slots will take place from March 14 to March 23. Runners register at the race website, http://www.beach2beacon.org.
Race organizers again expect the online registration portion to fill at a record-setting pace. In 2013, Cape resident registration finished in nine minutes, while online registration for the general public was open for just under five minutes before all slots were filled.
The entry fee is $45. Race organizers also are reminding runners who get shut out of the online registration to consider utilizing the Group Lottery feature that permits groups of up to six people to enter the lottery together. With this feature, if one gets in they would all get in.
