SCARBOROUGH, Maine (NEWS CENTER) - The Ford Driving Skills for Life program rolls into Maine to teach new teen drivers how to stay safe on the roads.

It's a national award-winning program established in 2003 by the Ford Motor Company Fund, the Governors Highway Safety Association and a panel of safety experts.

The program helps young drivers improve skills in areas that are critical factors in 60 percent of teen crashes.

  • Distraction awareness
  • Vehicle handling
  • Impaired driving

Vehicle crashes are the number one killer of American teens, claiming 5,000 lives per year.

Crash rates are highest during a teen's first few hundred miles on the road.

This program equips teens with the fundamental skills necessary for safe driving.
